Important dates

  • Monday, March 1 at 8:30 a.m. – nominations open
  • Friday, March 5 at 4:30 p.m. – nominations close
  • Monday, March 8 at 4:00 p.m. – mandatory candidate information session
  • Wednesday, March 10 at 8:30 a.m. – campaign period begins
  • Friday, March 19 at 4:30 p.m. – campaign period ends
  • Monday, March 22 at 8:30 a.m. – voting begins
  • Friday, March 26 at 4:30 p.m. – voting ends
  • Official election results announced by Thursday, April 1

Durham College By-law No. 4 regulates the election of internal governors. It explains everything you need to know about the voters’ list, the campaign period, the voting period and disputes and appeals.

Next steps

  1. Nomination time!
    Get a copy of the nomination form. The nomination form will be available online during the nomination period. The nomination period is from 8:30 a.m. on Monday, March 1 to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, March 5.
  2. Complete the nomination form – refer to Section 8 of DC By-law No. 4 for the specifics.
  3. Nomination forms will be accepted in-person or virtually by appointment only. To submit your form, you must make an appointment by emailing Melissa Pringle, chief returning officer. Appointments are available between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday and should take no longer than 10 minutes.
  4. The chief returning officer will confirm the information on the nomination form and inform nominees of their acceptance as candidates by noon on Tuesday, March 9.

Candidate video statements

Candidates are encouraged to submit a 90-second video introducing themselves and describing why they should be elected as the academic or support staff governor. This information will be published on this page during the campaign and voting periods. In lieu of a video message, submitting a photo and written statement (maximum 100 words) is permissible.
