This course introduces students to the elements of mechanical design and occurs in three parts. The first portion covers mechanical engineering components such as fasteners, bearings, and springs while the second part deals with basic machine elements such as gears, belts and pulleys, chains and sprockets. The final portion covers the design process and design evaluation. Throughout the course, students apply the knowledge gained via assignments in assembly design and/or component selection, capturing design intent in engineering sketches or other design documents. Knowledge from previous courses such as MECH 1201 (DRFT 2131) and MECH 1104 (DRFT 1107) is also called upon.
