Please review “How to Complete Credit Transfer Application”  for a step-by-step guide for completing your request. It is best to determine which courses you wish to transfer and have supporting documentation ready prior to starting your application.[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”I HAVE COMPLETED A FULL YEARS WORTH OF CREDITS AT ANOTHER POST-SECONDARY INSTITUTION. WILL I RECEIVE ADVANCED STANDING?”]Students who have successfully completed one year of the following programs may be eligible for advanced standing with our province-wide system agreement:  Social Service Worker, Early Childhood Education, Police Foundations, Business- Accounting, Business- Human Resources or Business – Marketing. In order to determine your eligibility for the system transfer, we will require an official transcript from your previous institution. For more information on this process, please connect with the transfers office at transfers@websiteredesign.durhamcollege.ca. Students who have not completed a program listed above will need to apply for credit transfer using our formal course-by-course process.[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”What information is required for a credit transfer evaluation?” el_id=”1500914218595-9bdc75e6-50ce”]An Application for Credit Transfer must include:

  • Payment – there is a non-refundable $16/course evaluation and processing fee for core courses.

[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”How long does it take to hear back regarding a credit transfer request?” el_id=”1500914253405-bd975645-20ef”]Requests for credit transfer typically take between 3-6 weeks to receive a response. This may be higher during peak periods (i.e. semester start). It is recommended that requests be submitted prior to course commencement. Credit transfer requests must be submitted by the tenth (10th) day of classes each semester.[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”What minimum grades are required for courses to transfer?” el_id=”1500914276155-a5879508-4345″]

For external courses (courses completed at another college or university) to transfer, you must have achieved a minimum grade of 60 per cent or the minimum passing grade for the course, whichever is higher.

For internal courses (courses previously completed at Durham College) to transfer, you must have achieved the passing grade for the course you are seeking exemption from.

[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”My courses were completed a few years ago, is there an age limit for courses to transfer?” el_id=”1500914304716-3fcb8570-d0ec”]

Courses should have been completed within the past five years. While courses completed more than five years ago can be submitted, they may be denied on the basis of age if there have been significant changes to practice or professional requirements, policies/legislation, or technology/software requirements. General education courses are exempted from the five-year rule.

If your courses are too aged for credit transfer, you may consider Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR). PLAR provides a way to challenge the learning outcomes of a course using previous work/life experience. Information about PLAR can be found at: www.websiteredesign.durhamcollege.ca/plar.

Credit transfer requests must be received by the tenth (10th) day of classes. It is highly recommended that requests be submitted 3-4 weeks prior to course commencement.

You may receive credit for up to a maximum of 75 per cent of your Durham College program. A minimum 25 per cent of courses for the program must be completed at Durham College.

[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”MY STATUS IS SHOWING AS MISSING INFORMATION IN THE PORTAL? WHAT ARE MY NEXT STEPS?”]In order to process your credit transfer request, we must receive all supporting documentation. If your status is showing as missing information we may be missing a transcript or course outline. To submit a transcript, we advise that you request to have an electronic transcript sent to Durham College directly to transfers@websiteredesign.durhamcollege.ca. For course outlines, we will require a detailed course outline that must include a course description, learning outcomes, week-by-week breakdown and/or assessment criteria. Please email the detailed outline to transfers@websiteredesign.durhamcollege.ca.[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”I AM HAVING DIFFICULTY SUBMITTING MY REQUEST. WHO SHOULD I CONTACT?”]If you are facing difficulties submitting your request, please connect with the transfer team at transfers@websiteredesign.durhamcollege.ca. We are also available on live chat through here and by phone at 905 721 2000 ext. 7605.[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”How will approved equivalencies and credits appear on my academic record?” el_id=”1500914324784-eee3e81b-e99f”]

If approved for a credit transfer, you will receive a grade of “TC” for the course approved for exemption. The grade achieved at your previous institution will not be included in your GPA calculation.

If approved using a previously completed Durham College course with the same credit weighting (i.e. a 3-credit course for a 3-credit course), your previous course (and grade) will be used to satisfy the requirement of the course in your new program and will be included in your GPA calculation. If you are using more than one course to equal two courses (i.e. COURSE A+COURSE B = COURSE AB) or your previous course had a different credit weighting than your current course (i.e. a 4-credit course toward a 3-credit course) you will be exempted from your current course. An exemption is recorded on your academic transcript as an “EX” and is not included in GPA calculation.

[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”I HAVE BEEN APPROVED FOR A CREDIT TRANSFER, HOW DO I DROP MY CURRENT COURSE?”]If you have been approved for a credit transfer, the course will still appear on your schedule as part of the registration process.  The course may be dropped afterward once the timetable change window opens. Please refer to the Important Dates listed on MyDC for the specific date when timetable changes are permitted.  To drop your approved credit transfer request,  follow the ADD/DROP instructions listed here:https://websiteredesign.durhamcollege.ca/mydc/wp-content/uploads/sites/8/How-to-Add-Drop.pdf.[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”WILL I RECEIVE A TUITION ADJUSTMENT FOR APPROVED CREDIT TRANSFERS?”]Any successful credit transfer applications will not result in a tuition-fee adjustment unless you are dropped to part-time status. Changes to part-time status will only receive a tuition adjustment if courses are dropped before Day 10. Please consult with Financial Aid if you are in receipt of OSAP and have questions regarding the number of courses you can be exempt from without dropping to part-time status and how this could impact your funding.[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”I disagree with a credit transfer evaluation, can I appeal?” el_id=”1500914385840-ef266b0e-41bd”]

Typically, credit transfer evaluations can only be reversed if additional information is provided to support the request (such as a second course, a more detailed course outline, etc.). If you disagree with a credit transfer denial, please e-mail transfers@websiteredesign.durhamcollege.ca to inquire about what information is needed.
