Explore AI: Create Your Own Machine Learning Models In this interactive workshop, students will dive into the world of machine learning using Google’s Teachable Machine platform. This hands-on session allows participants to choose between three different AI models—image, audio, or pose recognition—and build their own interactive AI. Students will learn how AI systems recognize patterns and process data, giving them insight into the basics of machine learning in a fun and accessible way. Food IQ - Learn How To Make Spring Rolls With Fresh Ingredients This fun and insightful workshop is a food literacy cooking class where you will have the opportunity to creatively assemble custom Spring Rolls! During the workshop, you will learn kitchen safety, basic knife skills and grocery budgeting tips, as well as learning about the benefits and cost savings of cooking at home as opposed to eating out. Choose from a variety of ingredients to fill your spring rolls and create your own dipping sauce! Throughout the workshop, there will be guided discussion on various food literacy topics such as sourcing food, nutrition, and alternative food and cooking tools. Build a Birdhouse Join us for a hands-on workshop where you'll learn the skills to build your very own birdhouse using wood and nails. An experienced instructor will guide you each step of the way. Solar Hybrid Electric Vehicle Have fun assembling your very own solar hybrid electric car! Learn about solar panel power generation, electric and hybrid vehicles and motor principles. STEM Stars: Trailblazing Women in STEM The objective of the "STEM Stars: Trailblazing Women in STEM" workshop is to inspire and educate 12 to 13-year-old girls about the significant contributions of women in STEM. By highlighting historical and contemporary female figures in STEM, the workshop aims to foster interest and empower young girls to pursue STEM-related fields. Packaging Design Let's get creative! In this workshop, students will design their own custom-made product packaging. Using the technology in one of our MAD Mac Labs, students will be introduced to the Adobe Creative Suite software and the rest is up to them! Students will be the Graphic Designers on site, choosing their own colours, fonts, and designs. After a short time on the computers, they’ll print their final projects and construct their packages by hand, leaving with a small product box perfectly designed by them! Nursing in Action: The Science and Technology of Caring This hands-on workshop will introduce participants to the exciting world of nursing, showcasing how it integrates science, technology, and problem-solving. Participants will rotate through three interactive stations, each designed to engage them in a fun and educational activity. They will learn about vital signs monitoring, innovative nursing technologies, and critical thinking through real-world healthcare scenarios. The workshop is designed to inspire students to see nursing as a dynamic and impactful career in STEM. Bath Bombs Participants will explore acid-base chemistry by creating bath bombs they can take home. Electromagnets & Robotics 101 Students will learn how to assemble their own electromagnets and then be able to see electromagnetic motors in action by getting hands-on experience in our robotics lab. Medical Devices and Vital Signs In this workshop, we will use patient monitors and show students how a biomedical technologist uses technology to support clinical nurses by ensuring that vital signs like ECG blood pressure and oxygen saturation are validated for patients. Students will have the opportunity to try the equipment on themselves. Aquatic Fireworks The Water Fireworks Experiment demonstrates the interaction between oil and water and how different densities and polarities affect how substances mix. Using household items such as cooking oil, food colouring, and water, students can create a colourful display that mimics fireworks in a jar. We will also layer liquids to create a rainbow. Innovations in Nursing Assessments Under the guidance of nursing faculty, this session aims to increase the student’s appreciation and understanding of bodily systems. Students will be provided with the opportunity to explore systems in the human body using state-of-the-art technology. Fastener Challenge Fasteners play a critical role in the construction of all sorts of everyday objects. Participants will learn about many different types of fasteners and their uses, including screws, bolts, and nuts, as well as the tools needed to tighten them properly - all in a friendly challenge! Make Stuff Move Get inspired by the simple but effective movement of the inchworm, which shifts its weight during its "pinching/folding" to push the front and pull the back. Put your construction, carpentry principles and robotic animation skills to the test. Hula Hoops Participants will learn how to make a hula hoop using pex pipe, brass couplings and copper crimp rings. A demonstration will be followed by a hands-on build and some hula hoop fun!
